
Julie London (nee Peck, September 26, 1926 - October 18 1999) is an American actress and singer who spanned over 40 years. London, a torch singer famous for her soft, melodic vocals and smooth contralto voice was a recording artist on more than thirty albums of standards and jazz between 1955 and 1969. The track she recorded "Cry Me a River" which she introduced on her debut album, was included in the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. London was nominated in 1974 to the Golden Globe Award as a actress for her role in Emergency! of Dixie McCall. London was born in Santa Rosa to vaudevillian parents. Her acting career began acting as an actress as she worked as an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles. London's career as an actor of 35 years began with film in 1944. It featured parts as the female lead in various westerns. In the middle of the 1950s, she signed a recording deal with Liberty Records, marking the beginning of her professional career. Her final studio album in 1969, but continued to have success as the role of a female nurse Dixie McCall in the television series Emergency! (1972-1979), she was with her husband Bobby Troup. Jack Webb, her ex-husband who produced the show.
