Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian was born in Canada, but was raised in the United States. She's worked as a media critic since 1995. Feminist Frequency provides videos, comments and an analysis of portrayals in popular cultures. Anita Sarkeesian a Canadian American media critic. She is the creator and executive director of Feminist Frequency A scholarly not-for-profit website which explores representations of women in pop culture narratives. Committed to deconstructing the stereotypes of women that have been portrayed in popular culture, she is a vocal advocate for issues relating to the targeted harassment of women and the other marginalized groups of people in the online space. Sarkeesian who has an MA in Political and Social Thinking from York University, is a sought after public speaking. She has spoken at TEDxWomen's XOXO Festival and the United Nations Broadband Working Group to Gender. She was fascinated by the gender issue and feminist movements from a very young age. In 2009, while continuing to study at the university level she launched the Feminist Frequency website. She had a plan to start an internet-based program that would examine the role of gender in games however, she was also the subject of an online harassment campaign. But the assault did not deter her instead it made her more determined to be a feminist media critic. In recognition of the many accomplishments she's made to feminism, she is awarded numerous prizes. Anita Sarkeesian, a media journalist who has received numerous awards and created Feminist Frequency, an educational organization that focuses on the way women are depicted in media narratives.
